R. Brad Martin Student Wellness Center and Outdoor Sports Complex
Planning and design of a new 78,000 sf Recreation and Wellness Center and outdoor recreation complex for the University of Memphis, that will become the focal point on campus for holistic wellness and recreational opportunities. The facility is designed to complement the existing Student Recreation and Fitness Center and has been designed to accommodate future expansion.

The new 2-story Recreation and Wellness Center is designed to maximize day-lighting throughout the building and transparency between spaces. The building contains space for the Department of Health Promotions including a large teaching kitchen, Grab-N-Go food station with cafe seating, a classroom, and seminar room that also serves as a Somatic Practices Instruction suite. Recreation components include a two-court gym; 15,000 sf of distributed weight-fitness space; four group exercise studios (X-Fit, Yoga, TRX, Cycling); outdoor fitness terrace; indoor jogging track, locker rooms, and CRIS offices. Also included in the project are a number of outdoor recreation features including a recreation pool, basketball court, Sand Volleyball Court, six tennis courts and a large artificial turf for flag football, soccer and softball and a jogging track.

The building was designed with an alternate track extension that looped up and over the primary track within the volume of the gymnasium. Runners could take an alternate path up an incline to a two-lane track running above the main three-lane track below, then then take another incline back down to the main track.
