River Campus - School of Visual and Performing Arts

New satellite campus developed along the banks of the Mississippi River consolidated the visual and performing arts programs at Southeast Missouri State University into a new single location.  The major programmatic function of the new River Campus School of Visual and Performing Arts Center include the University Departments of Theatre and Dance, Music and Arts as well as the new Southeast Missouri State University Museum and the Cape Girardeau Welcome Center and Convention & Visitor Bureau. The facility contains 146,800 square foot of new and renovated buildings, including a new 80,500 square foot performance theatre and academic studio building, a new 14,400 square foot Museum, and a new 5,200 square foot Welcome Center for the City of Cape Girardeau.  And existing historic 5 story, 46,700 square foot Seminary building dating back as far as 1843 was completely renovated.

The new building houses the 950-seat Proscenium Theatre, the 180-seat Flexible Theatre, the new Southeast Missouri State University Museum and the Cape Girardeau Welcome Center and Convention & Visitor Bureau, a Dance Performance Studio, a Theatre-Dance Studio, an Instrument Rehearsal space, performance theatre ‘back-of-the-house’ support spaces, academic classrooms and teaching studios for the Theatre and Dance, Music and Arts departments.

The renovated St. Vincent’s Seminary building houses the 214-seat Recital Hall to jointly serve as the primary Music Department performance space and as a Choir rehearsal room. The building also houses academic classrooms and studio space for Theatre and Dance, Music and Arts departments, music practice rooms, faculty offices and shared department spaces including the Shared Resource Library and Student Exhibition Gallery.
