Community Recreation Center

The project began with a comprehensive Feasibility Study to assess current and future recreational needs within the City of Maryland Heights through a highly interactive, community engagement process and existing building assessment.  With assistance from Ballard*King, the Feasibility Study process validated the City’s belief that the current community center could no longer accommodate the identified needs of the residents and had far outlived its physical lifespan.  With strong support from City residents and administration, Maryland Heights decided to move forward with the planning and design of their new community recreation center.

The new facility was designed to accommodate the growing communities recreation needs and includes a wide array of activity spaces while maintaining the unique community programs offered in the City's existing outdated facility.  New program elements include: a large multi-use events space with catering kitchen, a preschool, babysitting area, dedicated senior’s space, meeting rooms, arts & crafts room, and a police substation. Activity spaces added to the existing program include a two court Multi-use Activity Court (MAC), enhanced weight fitness space, two group exercise studios, cycling studio, indoor walking/jogging track, and an indoor family lifestyle pool.  The project also includes enhancements to the existing site adding green space, outdoor program areas, and complete redesign of existing parking throughout the site to better serve the new community recreation center and an outdoor aquatic center.
